What Is the CBI & MCBI Designation—and Why It Matters to You
Why You Should Only Work with a Certified & Master Certified Business Intermediary to Sell Your Arizona Business
The International Business Brokers Association—the largest business brokerage trade organization in the world—awards two of the most respected designations in the industry.
These designations represent a combination of advanced education, proven experience, and a commitment to the highest ethical standards.
Certified Business Intermediary
The Certified Business Intermediary (CBI) designation is awarded to business brokers who have completed rigorous training in all aspects of selling a business, including valuation, marketing, negotiations, and deal structure.
To earn the CBI, I:
- Completed over 60 hours of advanced coursework
- Attended intensive training programs through the International Business Brokers Association
- Passed multiple exams, culminating in a comprehensive final exam
The CBI designation demonstrates that a broker has invested the time and effort to master the knowledge required to properly represent business owners.
I am one of only 10 business brokers in Arizona who have earned the CBI designation.

Master Certified Business Intermediary
The Master Certified Business Intermediary (MCBI) is the highest designation awarded by the International Business Brokers Association.
While the CBI proves advanced knowledge, the MCBI goes a step further. It is reserved for a select group of brokers who have:
- A proven track record of successfully closing transactions
- Significant real-world deal experience
- Continued advanced education beyond the CBI
- A long-standing commitment to professionalism and ethics
I am one of only 4 business brokers in Arizona who have earned the MCBI designation.
Why Work with a Broker Who Holds Both CBI & MCBI Designations?
Selling your business is one of the most important financial decisions you will ever make. The broker you choose directly impacts your outcome.
When you work with someone who holds both the CBI and MCBI designations, you benefit from:
Higher-Level Deal Expertise
- Maximize valuation
- Structure deals that actually close
- Navigate buyer objections and lender requirements
Stronger Negotiation Skills
- Better sale price outcomes
- More favorable deal terms
- Fewer deals falling apart
Proven Track Record
The MCBI is only awarded to brokers who have already demonstrated success—not those still learning on the job.
Ethical Standards You Can Trust
CBI and MCBI designees adhere to the highest level of professional ethics through the International Business Brokers Association, ensuring confidentiality, transparency, and integrity throughout the process.
Reduced Risk for You
Most business sales never make it to closing. Working with a broker who holds both designations significantly reduces that risk by ensuring your deal is handled correctly from start to finish.
